What are the Treatment Steps

Care of you and your family is of primary concern with everything we do at KIDS.

Ensuring that you have all the information you need along the way is critical to ensure that you are making the decisions that are right for you.

We designed KIDS to give you and the best care through having people that look after you really care about the treatment you get.  With the latest in laser technology, trained team to ensure you get the best outcomes both in the short and long term.

Check out our care steps below to get an overview of how we are going to care for you*.

What is the Effect of Tongue and Lip Tie?

Restrictions such as lip and tongue ties can affect far more than your child’s mouth. In the short term, lip and tongue tie can interfere with your child’s feeding and cause development issues. If not properly treated, lip and tongue tie can cause long-term speech difficulties and distress when eating certain types of food – which could then impact your child’s nutrition, comfort, and self-confidence.

You will be welcomed by our specially trained team whose focus is to make your visit as relaxed and caring as possible. Dr Hany will meet with you along with our Lactation Consultant to help guide you through the procedure and answer any questions you have.

This consultation will talk about Lip and Tongue Ties, the procedure and the expected outcomes. Our goal is to ensure that we meet you and your child’s needs to give you the treatment that meets your expectations.

During the treatment, you will be supported by Dr Hany and our specially trained team*.

Your child will be swaddled to keep them safe while we hold them during the procedure. Everybody will wear special laser glasses (including your child) to minimise the effect of the laser on eyes.

During the procedure, your child will be secured while the precise laser cuts and cauterises the affected area. We will use a tongue depressor to help position the laser.

When the procedure is complete we will bring your child to you to start feeding to ensure the healing process and learning new movement that is now possible as the tie has been released.

We encourage you to take your time with feeding and with the assistance of our Lactation Consultant, you can do what is natural to you – the beauty of naturally feeding.

Requirements to bring along to the appointment:

• required paperwork

• change clothes and your personal requirements

• any additional feeding material or supplies
